San Juan Islanders for Safe Shipping is requesting the Canada’s National Energy Board (NEB) reject the proposed Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project. Here are some of the reasons as stated in our petition:
• The project application does not adequately address the risk of oil spills nor does it identify sufficient funding for oil spill clean-up restoration, penalties, and damages.
• The project application does not address the unique challenges and costs of cleaning up a spill of oil sands/bitumen/diluted bitumen products.
• If the project is permitted, San Juan Islanders for Safe Shipping is asking Canada’s NEB to impose restrictions and conditions that address all potential adverse impacts of the project, including all potential adverse impacts from oil spills and marine shipping, including accidents and malfunctions.
If you agree and would like to add your signature to the petition that we will attach to our comment letter due July 23, 2015 to the NEB, please download the petition file SJIFSS Petition to Canada’s NEB re. Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion project. You can then print it out, sign, and get others to sign along with you.
