Dear Safe Shippers,
Here is our first action item of 2019 — I know you are ready! Let’s take this opportunity to ensure a healthy Salish Sea for all, especially for new baby L124 (aka Lucky).
The Washington state legislature is in session and is pondering a set of bills that are designed to protect and restore the Southern Resident orcas by addressing the threats they face: Lack of Food; Vessel Noise and Disturbance; Pollution; and Oil Spills.
Safe Shippers know how to fight for Oil Spill Prevention!
Let’s tell our representatives to vote YES on Senate Bill 5578:
SB 5578 reduces threats to southern resident killer whales by improving the safety of oil transportation. It enacts into law zone-based tug escort requirements for vessels carrying crude oil, including smaller tankers and articulated tug barges, and requires an emergency response tug stationed in the vicinity of the San Juan Islands.
Safe Shippers Can Take Immediate Action!
Please write or call BEFORE THURSDAY MORNING to the members of the Environment, Energy & Technology committee who will be voting on SB 5578 this Thursday, February 7.
How? It’s easy!
