Save Orca Waters from Offshore Drilling!

Dear Safe Shippers,

Yesterday we celebrated the good news that Governor Inslee denied the proposed oil export terminal on the Columbia River. We are proud that Safe Shippers were among the hundreds of thousands of voices making that happen.

Safe Shippers speak up for the protection of the Salish Sea and all waters of Washington State, knowing that the impacts to any water will eventually be felt on our own island shores.

This time, Washington’s coastal waters need our voices.

BAD IDEA: The Trump administration’s “2019-2024 Proposed Oil and Gas Leasing Program” — a plan to expand offshore drilling on over 90% of the Outer Continental Shelf along America’s coastline. This means that our wild and rugged Washington Coast — its communities, beaches, and marine ecosystems, including the coastal migratory feeding route of our endangered Southern Resident Killer Whales — are at risk from a catastrophic oil spill.

SPEAK UP: Join in the Day of Action to Stop Offshore Drilling, February 5 in Tacoma.
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) will be holding hearings on the offshore drilling plan all across the country in an open house format. The only hearing in our state will be in Tacoma on Monday, February 5, 2018. Since BOEM will NOT be accepting oral public comment at their presentation on Monday (apparently “hearing” means we listen to them), there will be an additional People’s Hearing where our comments will be recorded (in writing) and submitted as official comment to BOEM.

Where: Tacoma’s Landmark Catering and Convention Center
47 St. Helens Avenue, Tacoma WA 98402

When: Monday, February 5, 2018
1:00-2:00pm Press Conference (Corinthian Room)
2:00-8:00pm People’s Hearing

5:30-6:30pm Rally and Dinner
Wear blue for Clean Orca Water!
