Dear Safe Shippers,
It’s a happy day for the Columbia River, the Salish Sea, and all the waters of Washington State! Governor Jay Inslee made the final decision today and it was a “NO!” to the proposed Tesoro Savage oil export terminal on the mighty Columbia.
Since 2013, Safe Shippers have written many comment letters voicing our concerns about this project, saying, “What happens on the Columbia River affects us in the Salish Sea!” We said we were concerned about the impacts from increased shipping in the Salish Sea if project-related ships were to transport crude or require fueling in our island waters, not to mention the impacts on the Columbia River Chinook salmon and the endangered orcas who feed on them. Those must have been our voices in the Governor’s ear when he made his decision to deny this project!
Let’s say “THANK YOU” to Governor Inslee and the State of Washington Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council (whose recommendation the Governor cited when making his decision):
